FCCS Executive Director Jay Artis-Wright issued the following statement after Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election.

As we look ahead to a Trump-Vance administration, FCCS remains committed to addressing the education crisis that disproportionately impacts Black and Latino communities. That work starts by addressing the critical education and economic needs of communities of color.

Across the country, Black and Latino voters see access to education options as a pathway to a brighter. more equitable future full of economic promise for their families. These voters also strongly believe in each parent’s right to choose the best school for their children. We saw these priorities play out in polls leading up to the election and on election day.

We plan to inform this next administration on the value of quality education and look forward to leveraging our expertise to lead to impactful changes that benefit all students. We stand ready to work with the next administration to prioritize policies that support greater quality public school options that meet every student’s needs, more funding for public schools serving Black and Latino students, investments in recruitment and retention efforts for teachers and leaders of color, and resources for schools to support student mental health and whole-child development.

We urge President-Elect Trump to embrace the role of president for all people across a deeply polarized country. True leadership champions policies that uplift every family, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, identity, or immigration status. FCCS joins our partners nationwide in protecting every student’s right to learn in schools where every student’s voice is valued and respected.

This election is a new chapter in our fight for equitable education. Now, more than ever, our resolve is strong. We will continue to advocate fiercely for school options and educational policies that support limitless opportunities for every child. By investing in these priorities, we can transform our public education system into one that truly serves all students, particularly those in communities of color who have been sidelined for too long.
