Dear FCCS Family,
As a parent of two Black children in public schools, I’m watching this election closely because I know what’s at stake. Education is one of the most important issues we face as a nation, yet it often gets sidelined in political conversations. We can’t afford that any longer. Our kids deserve better. The time to act is now—both in the voting booth and beyond.
The road to the White House runs through seven swing states. Voters and parents in those states overwhelmingly support public school options – and they’re ready to vote for candidates who align with their education values.
Education is what paves the way for economic mobility for our communtiies. And yet, elected leaders and presidential and vice presidential candidates are not talking about education

FCCS has been on a national voter education series tour to sound the alarm about the education and economic issues that matter most to Black and Latino school leaders and families. We need elected leaders and candidates to support all public school options – including charter schools that work for communities of color.
From meeting with Latino families in San Antonio, to voter education events in swing states including Wisconsin, Michigan and Tennessee, to meetings with U.S. Secretary of Education Cardona’s Office, to interviews with Roland Martin – we are amplifying the priorities that matter to YOU leading up to election day.
We are just days away from Election Day 2024. Have you made your plan to vote? The wave of support for these issues is gaining momentum, and the tide is turning for communities of color.
When we step into that voting booth, we’re not just choosing candidates—we’re taking control of our children’s futures.
But it doesn’t stop at the polls. After the election, we need to stay engaged, hold our leaders accountable, and continue to fight for the education our kids deserve. Our children’s future can’t wait for the system to fix itself. We need to be the ones to fix it—and that starts with our votes, our voices, and our determination. This is how we build a future where every child thrives, no matter who holds office. It’s time to take control.
In the meantime, check out a recap of our recent Your Vote, Your Voice voter education series here.
Thank you for joining us in building a legacy for our children.
In solidarity,
Jay
